A MULTI-MILLION pound leisure and entertainment venue is on course to open in Northwich in spring next year.

A bolt tightening ceremony has been held to mark the completion of the steel frame on the entertainment side of Northwich Memorial Court, in Chesterway.

Work is now progressing on the leisure side of the £15.1million building and the total structure will include 390 tonnes of steel and 11,500 bolts.

Tony Shenton, business unit director for Wates Construction North West, said: “Construction at Northwich Memorial Court is progressing as efficiently as we had intended and this is testament to the partnership approach we have adopted with Cheshire West and Chester Council.”

The project is being funded by Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC), in partnership with the Weaver Valley Partnership Board, and built by Wates Construction.

Replacing the former Northwich Memorial Hall and Magistrates’ Court buildings, the new Northwich Memorial Court will include a swimming pool, gym, multi-purpose theatre, a conference venue, community spaces and a café and bar.

Clr Stuart Parker, CWAC’s executive member for culture and economy, said: “Construction of Memorial Court is progressing well and the entertainment and leisure venue is on course to open in spring next year. “ A time lapse camera has been positioned overlooking the site and residents can view images showing the building work on weavervalley.org.uk.

Clr Parker said: “I am sure that over the coming months the stills from this camera will be popular with residents eager to find out how the build is progressing.”
