A WACKY world of family mayhem, speedy dogs, cartoon capers and cosmic pyjamas has been explored to the full in Moulton.

Children’s author Jeremy Strong spent a day with children at Moulton School running workshops with all year groups and signing copies of his popular books.

David Erne, deputy headteacher, said: “Having an author in school really brings it all to life.

“We’ve spent the past four weeks building up to this in class.

“Year Five have been studying his life and writing biographies – they’ve found it fascinating.

“The children have been really looking forward to it.”

With a series of books called ‘My Brother’s Famous Bottom’, Jeremy’s writing has been causing giggles in all age groups at the school and appeals particularly to boys.

Mr Erne said: “The brilliant thing about Jeremy Strong is that all ages can interact with it because of the humour, it really paints a picture.

“It’s easily accessible – it’s not a case of working through a really large volume.

“But the best part of it is that it appeals to boys, who are more reluctant to read.

“There’s a large percentage of boys coming through which has changed the demographic of the school and the curriculum in terms of the topics we look at – we don’t want to put them off.”

Jeremy agreed with Mr Erne after his own unhappy school days in the world of literature.

“I remember from my own experiences that boys were put off reading,” he said.

“The first class read we had was ‘Black Beauty’ and the second was ‘Little Women’.”

Headteacher Jane Birch said Jeremy’s visit was a success.

“We’ve had authors in the past but the children hadn’t heard of them, but they’ve all heard of Jeremy so they’re excited about that.”
