AN ARTIST is displaying her work in a charity exhibition she has organised at the tender age of seven.

Schoolgirl Charlotte Wilkinson, who lives in Comberbach, is working with professional artist Jane Morse to develop her skills and put on the event on Sunday, September 28.

Her mum Emma said: "It's unusual for an artist to agree to mentor such a young child.

"Jane felt it would be great for her confidence to exhibit her work and would make her proud, as well as exhibiting for charity."

Charlotte, a pupil at The Grange Junior School, in Hartford, started drawing at an early age and her skills soon developed beyond what her parents could help with.

Emma said: "She has drawn since she could hold a pencil really.

"She got very frustrated at four and five because she wanted, in her words, to make her work 3D.

"She wanted it to stand out of the page and I'm no artist by any stretch so I had to search for someone.

"Anyone I approached wasn't interested in mentoring a five-year-old but a few months later we met Jane who said she would meet Charlotte, see what she could do and if they can get on.

"They adore each other."

The pair meet for an hour a week and work together.

"She absolutely loves it," said Emma, who runs Cheshire Beauty Barn, in Bartington.

"Some of the work she has sat down and done are things that Jane would work on with an adult.

"It just shows what children of any age can do if they've got a talent."

The exhibition of both Charlotte and Jane's work will be held at Loule Ladies Fashion, above Davenports Farm Shop and Tea Rooms, in Bartington, from 5.30pm.

Admission is £1 with proceeds going to the charity Mary's Meals, which sets up school feeding projects in some of the poorest communities across the globe.
