MUMS are being asked for their ideas on raising funds to provide new equipment for a play area.

The site in Chapel Street, Wincham, has a few swings and a wheel which doesn’t work, but no equipment for young children.

Resident Clara Dockney has great grandchildren she would like to take to the play area if there was something for them to play on.

She looked enviously at improvements to the play area at Linnards Lane at the other end of the village, and asked the parish council if similar work could be undertaken at the Chapel Street play area.

However the council explained that the improvements at Linnards Lane were undertaken at the only available large area the parish council had access and control over, and it does not own the playground in Chapel Street.

Mrs Dockney remains undeterred, and is looking to raise the £1,500 needed to buy equipment for younger children for the play area at her end of the village.

A sponsored walk is one of the ideas being suggested to raise funds, and Mrs Dockney and fellow Chapel Street resident Lillian Barton are seeking ideas from mums living on the street on how they could raise the money they need.

An informal meeting for Chapel Street residents is due to take place next Tuesday at Mrs Dockney’s home.

“The play area has a few swings and a wheel, which used to move but doesn’t do anything now,” she said.

“There was also a lovely slide, but it was taken away for repair and never came back.

“The play area is looking a bit sad because there is nothing there really, and there is no comparison between it and the one at Linnards Lane.

“We have a number of young children in Chapel Street, but it is too far for them to walk to Linnards Lane and we want to buy some equipment for the little ones for the play area down here.”

Mrs Barton said it would be nice to take her younger grandchildren to the play area, but there was no equipment for their age group.

“There are four swings and a wheel, which has been broken for years,” she said.

“I have suggested doing a sponsored walk to the mums to raise money for equipment, and they were very interested. It would be nice if we could get something done for next spring.”
