VILLAGERS are hoping to hit the right note in their bid to raise funds to provide new equipment for a play park.

The site in Chapel Street, Wincham, has a few swings and a wheel which doesn’t work, but no equipment for young children.

As a result residents are joining forces to organise a series of fundraisers to pay for new equipment.

The bid to raise the money is being led by Chapel Street residents Clara Dockney and Lillian Barton, who are hoping to organise a carol singing event and a sponsored walk.

They are also to approach local businesses to seek their support, and have already been promised £200 from a local firm.

Residents supporting the campaign to provide new play equipment attended a meeting on Tuesday at Mrs Dockney’s home, at which fundraising ideas were discussed.

“We talked about how to raise the money we need, and are absolutely thrilled to have already been promised £200 from a local business,” said Mrs Barton.

“I would like to involve the children in the carol singing, and we are think of holding it in the street or in Northwich.

“One of the mums is a good singer, and said she would lead the carol singing.

“It was a good meeting for our first one, and we are going to meet again to agree on where and when to have the fundraising events.”

Mrs Dockney has great grandchildren she would like to take to the play area if there was something for them to play on.

“The play area has a few swings and a wheel, which used to move but doesn’t do anything now,” she said.

“There was also a lovely slide, but it was taken away for repair and never came back. The play area is looking a bit sad because there is nothing there really.

“We have a number of young children in Chapel Street, but it is too far for them to walk to the play area in Linnards Lane, and we want to buy some equipment for the little ones for the play area down here.”
