A FUNDRAISING day inspired by a six-year-old girl diagnosed with a brain tumour after an eye test has raised £460 to help other children.

Boots Opticians, in Witton Street, held the event on Saturday, November 8, to support the Erin Grace Whatever It Takes Association.

Erin was taken to Manchester Children's Hospital after her eye test at the Northwich opticians and is now undergoing treatment in America.

Her family set up the Erin Grace Whatever It Takes Association to raise awareness of brain tumours in children, support other charities and campaigns working for that goal, campaign for earlier and better diagnoses and raise funds for the hospitals and charities that have helped them.

Debbie Hughes, practice manager, said: "They're a lovely family and we are proud to be able to support them.

"They just want to give something back and set up their website so they can help other people that find themselves in the same position."

The fun day featured a balloon modeller, staff dressed as Disney characters, face painting, a cake sale and a raffle.

Staff were also keen to raise awareness of brain tumours.

Debbie said: "We got out there and gave out lots of leaflets about the charity Headsmart and gave out cards with all the symptoms people should look out for, particularly in young children.

"Everyone got involved and we had a lot of fun."
