ST NICHOLAS Catholic High School pupil Theo Hulbert cooked up success at the district final of the Rotary Young Chef competition.

Theo won the contest, and will now go forward to the regional final in March, which is being held at Rochdale College.

The district finalists had to produce a three-course meal for two people to cost no more than £15, which had to be cooked in two hours.

The final was judged by the head chef from the Crowne Plaza in Manchester and the chef and HR manager from the Marriott Hotel at Manchester Airport.

For the final Theo created a starter of smoked mackerel pate with Melba toast and a red pepper and chilli relish, followed by a main course of herb-crusted loin of lamb with Dauphinoise potatoes and glazed carrots with a lamb jus, and a dessert of minted chocolate profiteroles.
