INFECTION prevention products donated by the Northwich-based UK operations of a global company are helping to fight the spread of Ebola in West Africa.

Ecolab Inc is a leader in hygiene and infection prevention solutions, and shipped more than 6,600 cases of cleaning, sanitising and infection prevention products to help medical personnel caring for Ebola patients.

The nine shipments, which totalled 108 tons, were distributed to medical personnel in Ghana, Liberia and Sierra Leone to help prevent the further spread of the virus.

Much of the donation was provided by the UK operations of Ecolab, which are based in Northwich.

“Every day we work to help keep medical professionals and patients safe, and health care facilities clean, so we believe it is important for us to help those tragically affected by this outbreak and the medical professionals caring for them,” said Martha Goldberg Aronson, Ecolab executive vice-president.

The shipment included hand soaps, hand sanitisers and disinfectant cleaners.

“We take great pride in supporting the efforts of those courageous medical workers in West Africa caring for patients suffering from Ebola,” said Kris Taylor, vice-president, community relations at Ecolab.

“It is our hope that these products will help make a difference in the control of this outbreak.”

In addition to the nine shipments which have arrived in West Africa, Ecolab is finalising three additional shipments of cleaning, sanitizing and infection prevention products to help Ebola efforts in the region.
