A WOMAN attempted to rob another woman in a busy Northwich road in November but was chased off when a member of the public came to the rescue.

Police are now looking for the rescuer, a third woman, as well as anyone else who may have witnessed the incident.

The victim was walking along Manchester Road, in Lostock Gralam, in the direction of Northwich town centre, when a woman came up behind her, tried to snatch a bag from her and then demanded cash.

The incident happened near the junction of Hewitt Street and Manchester Road at 10.30pm on Monday, November 24.

DC Alex Leigh, from Northwich CID, said: "The victim was assisted by a member of the public which caused the offender to flee the scene empty handed.

"Fortunately, the victim was not injured during the incident."

The would-be robber is described by police as white, aged in her 30s, very skinny and with long mousy brown hair that was in a pony-tail.

She was wearing a medium length coat which had fur around the hood, dark coloured jeans and is described as generally scruffy looking.

DC Leigh said: "The offender is particularly distinctive as she is described as having a large swelling or bruise around her left eye.

"The police are appealing for any witnesses to this incident to come forward, in particular the female that came to the assistance of the victim who still remains unidentified."

Anyone with information information should ring DC Leigh on 01606 363258 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
