A BRIDGE in Acton Bridge will reopen fully next week following safety fears.

The A49 has been reduced to a traffic light-controlled single lane where it passes over the River Weaver since potential structural issues were spotted during routine maintenance works.

Repairs are set to be carried out at the 82-year-old bridge, looked after by the Canal and River Trust, this weekend.

A temporary 30mph speed limit will be in force for the duration of the work.

Once the repairs are complete, Cheshire West and Chester Council will resurface the affected sections on Monday.

Weather permitting, this will allow both lanes of the bridge to opened by Tuesday, December 16.

In the meantime, the road will continue to operate as one lane only controlled by temporary traffic lights.
