RESIDENTS are campaigning against housing plans that will turn their quiet cul-de-sac into a busy through route.

People in Wyche Close, in Rudheath, are concerned about plans for 24 homes at land at the former Canalside Farm, in King Street.

The proposal suggests using Wyche Close as the main access road to the new houses, which is a resubmission of a plan for 20 houses that got the go ahead in 2002 but were never built.

Julian Williams, who lives in the close, said: "The development of the site isn't an issue for residents of Wyche Close because we've been expecting it for years.

"But the new plan for 24 houses resurrects the idea of coming out of our close.

"It's a quiet cul-de-sac that's mainly used as a play street by the kids.

"There's only just enough room for two cars, it's block paving and there are no pavements."

He said that Wyche Close feeds into School Road North, along with Tudor Close and Elizabethan Way, which then feeds into King Street.

"Four roads merge there and trying to get out now is bad enough, never mind with another 24 houses," Julian said.

Resident's comments submitted to Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) point out that the previous application for the site was only approved when it altered its access proposals to include plans for a road on to King Street.

Julian said written notification of the plans was only sent by CWAC to two householders, who are direct neighbours to the site, so he is writing to residents in Wyche Close, School Road North, Tudor Close and Elizabethan Way.

"If you're going to open up a road to 24 houses it would be reasonable to tell the residents that's what you're going to do," he said.

"This is to raise awareness.

"People might not want to object, they may be more than happy to come down this road where there's no pavements but in my opinion it's just lunacy."
