TRAFFIC levels on Chapel Street in Wincham have reached saturation point, claims Wincham Parish Council.

The warning from the council formed the basis of its objection to plans for a further nine homes at Ashwood Park in Chapel Street.

However its concerns failed to persuade Cheshire West and Chester Council to reject plans by Tingdene Parks, which has been granted approval for the homes, which are in addition to the previous approval for 53 units at the site.

The proposed new units are to be situated to the north of the site, within three separate areas.

A CWAC planning officer’s report said the increase of nine units would not have a severe impact on the roads within the site or at the access point.

Wincham Parish Council disagreed, and wrote to CWAC to object to the application.

“The level of traffic using Chapel Street in Wincham has already reached saturation point, and all the residents of the proposed new dwellings will have vehicle access only onto Chapel Street,” said the council.

“Bearing in mind the existing outline planning permission for 850 dwellings as part of the Wincham Urban Village and the additional application for 105 dwellings currently being considered, whereby there will only be access onto Chapel Street, the parish council is calling for a full traffic analysis to be conducted before this application is considered by the planning committee.”

A total of 245 vehicles were recorded by the parish council driving along this part of Chapel Street over an hour during mid-morning on a Wednesday.
