A BOXING night proved a great success in Lostock and raised £500 for a Northwich club.

The Battle of the Era was a fight night that saw boxers from New Era Boxing take on 'the best of the rest' in a show at Lostock Club.

More than 300 people attended and watched the 10 bouts held on the night.

Trophies were up for grabs in skill bouts for children aged 10 and above, schoolboy bouts for 11 to 13-year-olds, junior bouts for teenagers aged between 14 and 16, youth bouts for those aged from 17 to 18 and senior bouts for 19 to 40-year-olds.

New Era members Harry Rycroft and Oliver Spalding fought in the skill bouts, Rhys Bha and Bradley Bate fought in the schoolboy bouts and Lewis Broughton fought in the youth bouts.

New Era won two of the three senior bouts with Aaron Tierney, middle/heavy weight, who won on points in his first fight and Sam Byrne, heavyweight, won with a second round technical knock out.

Thomas Bunby, from the club, said: "We would like to say a big thanks to all our sponsors and deputy mayor Andy Stott, to Martin Peake and the team at Lostock Club, and for the support from the local community.

"The boxers would like to thank all the coaches who gave up their time voluntarily."

Money raised by the night will go towards improvements at New Era, which is based in Queen Street.
