DRIVERS looking to use one of the main routes in an out of Northwich this and next weekend will have to find an alternative route because of roadworks.

A short section of the A559 Manchester Road, which runs through Lostock Gralam, is due to be resurfaced over three days, and will be closed as a result.

The section in question is situated between the junctions with Griffiths Road and Stanley Grove, where the road goes over the Trent and Mersey Canal.

The resurfacing is due to be undertaken by Cheshire West and Chester Council, and a council spokesman said the work was due to begin at about 1pm this Saturday, and continue until 6pm this Sunday.

The work is due to be completed next Sunday, March 15, and is scheduled to take place on the day between 8am and 5pm.

The spokesman added that the work was dependent on the weather, and diversion signs will be place to inform motorists of the alternative routes for through traffic.

The council said any vehicles not requiring access to properties on the section of road due to be resurfaced should use the alternative routes.

The alternative routes are - A559 Manchester Road , A559 Chester Way , A5509 Chester Way, A533 London Road , A533 Kingsmead, A533 London Road, A556 Shurlach Road, A559 Manchester Road, or the A559 Manchester Road, A556 Chester Road ( Manchester bound to Plumley Moor Road ) A556 Chester Road ( Chester bound ) A556 Shurlach Road, A533 London Road, A533 Kingsmead, A533 London Road, A533 Dane Street, A559 Watling Street.

Large signs are in place this week along Manchester Road alerting motorists to the forthcoming road works and the resulting road closure.
