PARENTS have been thanked for their ‘amazing’ support for a night hike.

A total of 95 Scouts, girls and boys, aged between 10 and 14, took part in the six-mile event on Saturday.

The event was organised by Mid Cheshire Scouts, and started and ended at the Scout hall in Barnton.

“The Scouts set off in teams at five-minute intervals across the fields to Marbury Country Park, around the park, and back along the canal to the Scout hall,” said Bryan Flint, group Scout leader at Barnton.

Bryan organised the hike with Alan Chapman, and said he was ‘amazed’ by the amount of support the event had received.

“It is hard to get support from adults, especially as children get older, and I am absolutely amazed by the amount of support we had,” he said.

“We had 40 to 50 adults standing about at checkpoints on a cold night in February, as well as people on mountain bikes checking on where everyone was.

“It was a fun event aimed at teaching navigation and map reading skills as well as teamwork, and the young people who took part get a sense of adventure from it.

“The first of the 20 teams set off at 6pm, and everyone was back at the hall by 11pm.”

Teams had to undertake a Crystal Maze-style strategy challenge at checkpoints, and the winners were Cuddington and Sandiway, with Antrobus and Comberbach in second and St John’s Winsford and St Wilfred’s Northwich in joint third place.
