VILLAGERS are being encouraged to make it snappy to enter a community photography competition.

The Get Snapping contest is being organised by Barnton Community Group, and is divided into three subject categories, animals, holidays and weather.

There are two age categories, under 18s and adults, and it costs only 25p and 50p to enter a photograph in each category respectively.

“We are holding our second competition following the success of last year’s, which went really well and attracted 110 entries, which was very good,” said community group chairman Lynn Gibbon.

“The main aim of the competition is to do something social for the community, and last year’s entries were really good and varied.

“We had quite a few entries from young people, and the overall winner was a 16-year-old boy.”

Last year’s entries were judged by Guardian photographer Nick Jones, and the deadline for entries, which can be a minimum of A5 and a maximum of A4, is June 30.

Following the deadline the entries will go on show at Barnton Pentecostal Church for a week before being judged, and the prizes will be presented at a strawberry cream tea at the church on Sunday, July 19.

Prizes will be presented to the winners and runners-up, and there will be a further prize for the overall winner.

The number of entries is unlimited, and they can be emailed to snappy2015@gmail.com with your name, age group and contact number.
