THIS year’s London Marathon will have a special meaning for running club chairman Chris Dymond.

Chris, from Barnton, is one of three members of Razzer’s Runners, which is based at Barnton FC, taking part in the world-famous 26-miler.

He will be competing to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of his father Derek and club founder Roy ‘Razzer’ Clarke, who both died last year and were supported by the charity.

For Chris it will be his second London Marathon after competing in the event four years ago for Help for Heroes.

“I am running the 2015 London Marathon for Macmillan Cancer Support because of the fantastic work that Macmillan do,” said Chris.

“They helped my dad, family and a good friend like they do with so many other people and families at a time when so much help and care is needed, when sometimes people are struggling to cope with what is happening,” said Chris.

“They are there, and are the ‘green angels’.”

For fellow club members Jason Barrow from Northwich and Gary Cooper from Kingsmead it will be their London Marathon debuts.

“Jason will be running for the charity Mind for better mental health issues for all, and has a virginmoney online page for donations,” said Chris.

“Gary is running with the Razzer’s club place after being picked out of the hat from club members wanting to run the marathon who were unsuccessful in the race ballot.

“This will be my fifth marathon, and we are hoping to go under four hours. We will be at different start areas, but hope to meet up somewhere.”

Chris is well on the way to hitting his £1,200 target for Macmillan, with donations to his justgiving online page standing at £1,021.

The London Marathon takes place on April 26, but before that Chris and fellow members of Razzer’s Runners will be out in force next Sunday, April 19, at the Whitley 10k, a race through Cheshire’s country lanes.
