POLICE are urging residents to be vigilant after men tried to steal a car overnight.

The men tried to break into the vehicle in Marston in the early hours yesterday, Wednesday, but ran off when they spotted a resident, who was calling the police.

The attempted theft took place in Ollershaw Lane, Marston, at 1.47am.

Northwich Police said they received a call from a resident to say that two men were acting suspiciously around a neighbour’s car.

When they spotted the caller they ran to the bottom of the road and drove off in a dark blue or black Renault van.

The men are described as five feet eight inches and five feet 10 inches tall. Both were wearing jeans, one wore a dark jacket and the other a tan-coloured jacket.

Police said it appeared to have been an attempted theft of a car, and officers searched the area and patrolled the neighbourhood last night.

Residents are being reminded to secure their property and vehicles, to remove any valuables from view and to contact police if they see any suspicious behaviour.
