A CARING schoolgirl has cut off her waist-length hair to give to charity after seeing her friend go through treatment for a brain tumour.

Millie Jackson, eight, was inspired to help by her friend Emilie Dean-Dennis, nine, who had a beautiful wig from the Little Princess Trust when the treatment caused her to lose her hair.

Millie's mum Kristina said: "Millie was a bit taken aback by it and said 'I would really like to donate my hair to the charity to help children like Emilie', I'm really really proud of her.

"It was her choice, her decision."

Millie and Emilie are both pupils at Cransley School and Emilie is on the road to recovery after being treated for a medulloblastoma, the most common malignant brain tumour in children.

Millie, who lives in Kingsmead, also plays football with Davenham Dynamoes.

Kristina said: "Her new haircut really suits her because she's such a tomboy – she plays football and is the only girl on her team.

"She's had 36cm cut off, she hasn't had it shaved off, it's chin length, but it was really long and so thick.

"It'll take some getting used to but she's pleased with her new look."

Millie also originally hoped to raise £60 with the haircut but has been overwhelmed by support and has raised £740.

Kristina said: "People have been so generous, even people that don't know her at all.

"It takes £350 to make a wig so she's made up that she's got enough to make two."
