COMBINING brain teasers with curry proved a winning combination for Rosebank School in Barnton.

A total of 19 teams took part in a quiz and curry night, which raised £620 for multi-skills coaching sessions.

The total was boosted by £600 which was raised privately by Keith Hitchen, who organised fun quiz nights for the school from 2009 until last year.

Keith retired from his fundraising efforts this year, and raised £11,765 during six years, which has been used to fund multi-skills sports sessions for children at Rosebank, a specialist primary school for children with autism and social and communication difficulties.

The multi-skills sessions teach sports skills, but are also good for teamwork, encouraging communication and building self-esteem, skills vital in helping children to progress.

“The quiz had been popular with regular supporters, so the Friends of Rosebank Committee took over the running of the quiz and changed the format to include a curry supper, licensed bar and a raffle,” said head teacher Judith McGuinness.

“A parent volunteered to cook the curry for us and did an amazing job – lots of people went up for second helpings.

“The night was supported by various local companies which donated prizes for the quiz and raffle, including Accident Advice Solicitors, Northwich, and Beer Trading.

“We raised £620 on the night and everyone had a great time. We will be holding another quiz night next year.”

Members of the Butler family formed the winning team, What The Butlers Saw, and won £100.

There were bottles of wine for the second team, and a booby prize of sweets for the team coming in last.
