A 71-YEAR-OLD woman was left with injuries to her face after being attacked by a man while she was sat in her canal boat on the Trent and Mersey Canal.

The woman was with her husband and friends at around 11.30pm on Thursday, June 25 when the incident happened.

The canal boat was moored at Dutton Hollows near the reconstructed tow path between bridge 212 and 213 when the attack happened.

The woman, who believes it was a man who attacked her but she cannot be certain, was treated for her injuries but was discharged the following day.

The attacker was wearing dark clothing.

DC Ross Hamilton, from Northwich Police, said: "This was an unprovoked attack in a very rural area late at night.

"If anyone saw anything suspicious at this time please contact Cheshire Police on 101 quoting incident number 38 26/6/15.”
