CHILDREN from Lostock Gralam Primary School attended the official reopening of a revamped play area.

The improvements at the Townshend Road play area have cost £80,000, and have been undertaken by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

The area provides new play equipment for younger and older children to encourage families to use the play area.

It has two pedestrian entrances stepped back from the main road and provision for cycle parking.

The informal open space remains to suit a range of ball games, and general recreation to reflect the wishes of local residents.

Children from Lostock Gralam CE Primary School Eco Committee, together with council officers, representatives from the parish Council, Community Support Officers and parents attended the formal opening of the new play area.

Cheshire West and Chester Council consulted with local residents in December 2014 on how best to update the play area, which included letters, questionnaires, a consultation event, a meeting at the parish council and the Eco Committee at the primary school.

“Cheshire West is also working with the community and the parish council to establish a Friends group to co-ordinate community activities and wider village engagement in the site,” said the council.

“From this month the parish council, in partnership with the community, will begin the Pink Poo dog fouling awareness campaign in the vicinity of the play area and other locations around Lostock Gralam.

“This autumn the council will work with the community to plant trees and bulbs at the site which will form the final elements of the scheme providing seasonal interest and colour.”
