A CASTLE student is hoping to fly high in the music industry following a series of gigs around Northwich.

Rebecca Holland, 18, first performed in Northwich shortly after she moved to the town from Norwich when she was 10.

Her first starring role was in Grease as Sandy but since then the teenager has gone on to study music at Hartford High, while being an active member of 146 (Northwich) Air Cadets squadron.

After performing at the Verdin Park Music Festival and at the first teenage market held in Northwich earlier this month, Rebecca told the Guardian she hoped to build on her experience so far - despite some hiccups on the way.

"I write my own songs and play the guitar but at Verdin Park recently the speaker blew," she said.

"So I decided to get everyone around the stage and play my own stuff. But when you are playing a cover everyone can sing along as they have heard it, so when it is your own song they are judging your singing and the song.

"My dream is to pursue a music career, that's all I want to do.

"I have a career in the RAF as a pilot as a back-up but the music industry is such a hard career to get in and I'm trying to build a portfolio at the moment.

"They do quite a few extra bits in the RAF, especially with music, and I'm currently in the band with the cadets."

After studying for her A-levels at Sir John Deane's, Rebecca is hoping to head to the University of Salford to study Popular Music and Recording.
