STUDENTS and teachers are celebrating at the University of Chester Academy Northwich after a year of progress has seen improved GCSE results.

Pupils gathered at the school on Middlewich Road, Rudheath, to find out if two years of studying had paid off.

In 2015 the school has continued to achieve well in all subjected and the A* to C expected progress has improved since 2014.

Maths and science students were also thrilled to achieve results that helped the school exceed the national progress measures.

Amongst the successes were Olivia Mullineux, who achieved seven A*s, one A and one B and Katie Fiddaman who gained two A*s, seven As and two Bs.

Olivia, 16, said: “I am so happy to have got these results. I didn’t expect to do this well.

“I’m looking forward to celebrating and to starting college in September.

Olivia, who is also a successful county gymnast, will attend Sir John Deane’s College to study A levels in biology, chemistry, art and psychology.

Katie, who is looking forward to joining Olivia at Sir John Deane’s, also achieved a Distinction in Music.

She said: “I’m feeling pretty awesome right now. I can’t believe it. I am particularly pleased with my English literature and history results because I will be carrying them on at A level.

“I was starting to doubt myself as the time went on, so I am really surprised and happy that I got what I did.”

The school hall was full of smiles today as the teens opened their envelopes together and discussed their results.

Cath Green, principal of the University of Chester Academy Northwich, said: "Our conscientious Year 11 students have achieved excellent results and I am very pleased with their successes.

“They have realised their potential through diligence, first-class teaching and encouragement from staff at UCAN.

“All students and teachers should be congratulated on their hard work and also thanks go to parents for their continued support.”
