PENSIONER Harry Ray is asking for spaces to be set aside for disabled parking at a town centre car park.

Mr Ray, 78, from Northwich, uses a mobility scooter, and is a regular visitor to the cafe at Northwich market.

He parks at the market car park, but has found it increasingly difficult to find a space over recent months.

His frustration has led him to call for Cheshire West and Chester Council to allocate a number of spaces for disabled parking.

He also believes more general spaces could be created if the car park was marked out.

Individual bays are not marked out, although there is a section and bays allocated for taxis.

Northwich market is held on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and parking at the car park is restricted on market days to market stall holders and disabled badge holders.

The car park is for public use on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday and Sunday.

“I go fairly often to the market cafe for breakfast or dinner, but it is difficult to find a space on the car park, and I have had to park on the road outside the market,” said Mr Ray.

“The car park needs to be marked out to create more spaces for cars and disabled parking.

“The council could create an area for four disabled spaces, possibly at the Nat West bank end of the car park.

“I know people who don’t come down to the market because they can’t find a space in the car park.

“The taxis have an area marked out for them, but disabled drivers don’t – it’s not fair.”
