TALENTED young singer songwriter Megan Dixon Hood is being championed by broadcaster and TV personality Sir Terry Wogan.

Megan, 19, who studied A levels at Sir John Deane’s College in Northwich, is a third year songwriting student at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Manchester.

She has been enjoying a flurry of attention due to a piano ballad she has written and self-released entitled Early Morning Riser.

Sir Terry asked to play the track on air as an exclusive on Weekend Wogan, his BBC Radio 2 Sunday lunchtime show.

Sir Terry has been influential in bringing similar female musicians such as Katie Melua and Eva Cassidy to national attention.

On the back of this Megan will be doing a live interview and session for Sir Terry’s BBC Radio 2 colleague, Alex Lester, for his BBC Radio Oxford show on Friday, November 27.

Megan has also been asked by Rag ‘n’ Bone Man - aka soul and blues singer Rory Graham - to support him on his tour in the new year, after he was bowled over by her live performance.

"I saw Megan playing at a festival in Wales and was mesmerised by her haunting vocals - she reminded me of Sandy Denny,” he said.

Briggy Smale, head of careers, industry liaison and events at BIMM Manchester, said: “We at BIMM are already proud of Megan’s achievements and we’re sure it’s going to be just the beginning for her.”
