AN MP has added her voice to a campaign by parents to save Cuddington and Sandiway school buses.

Residents met Eddisbury MP Antoinette Sandbach to ask for help after they found out the buses to Weaverham High School will be stopped from April.

Cheshire West and Chester Council (CWAC) wrote to parents at the end of October to say that the walking route to school along the A49 has now been classed as safe following the installation of a pedestrian crossing by the Eden Grange development.

Ms Sandbach said: "I do think parents have a legitimate complaint, firstly because of the way it has been handled by Cheshire West and Chester Council, which hasn't been particularly sensitive, and secondly because of this particular route.

"I'm happy to support the argument that it isn't a safe route because the one crossing that has gone in doesn't solve the other safety points along the route."

Parents, who met Ms Sandbach at the Blue Cap on Friday, fear for the safety of children walking along the 60mph A-road, as well as crossing by the White Barn, crossing Millington Lane and crossing at Weaverham Roundabout.

Russell Prigmore, from the campaign group, said: "That route isn't safe and I'm not going to accept that.

"To me this isn't about money but about child safety and we are not going to let it go."

Ms Sandbach said she would write to CWAC with her concerns and back calls by Weaver and Cuddington CWAC councillors Charles Fifield and Harry Tonge for the route to be reassessed.

"When a new crossing goes in they're legally obliged to reassess the route but I would argue that they've not assessed the whole route," she said.

"The outcome we want is to try to get this decision overturned and the safety of the whole route to be reassessed, not just part of it."
