SHOPPERS are asked to be patient and behave sensibly this weekend as Cheshire Police anticipates an unusually high volume of traffic during this weekend.

Commonly known as ‘Black Friday’, many people take to Cheshire roads in their hunt for a bargain or two.

Historically this rush to the shops has caused traffic problems around the county, and Cheshire Police are asking people to patient and to be aware of the increased demand on the road and travel networks.

Cheshire Oaks in Ellesmere Port can experience high levels of traffic onto and off the M53 and the surrounding roads on a normal day, but extra patrols can be deployed this weekend to help manage any situations as they arise to ease congestion.

Cheshire Police are asking motorists to consider their plans over the weekend, Friday, Saturday and Sunday and to vary their shopping times to make these days as stress-free as possible for all concerned.

Shoppers should plan their journey in advance, which might include considering going out at a different time – later in the evening, for example.

You should also prepare for the possibility of being stuck in traffic for any length of time, ensuring you have a supply of food and drink and warm blankets or clothing in your vehicle.

Chief Inspector Giles Orton said: “Wherever you decide to shop this weekend you are reminded to behave rationally and with dignity.

“We recognise the excitement this weekend can generate and we would ask anyone coming to the area over the weekend to follow us on Twitter (@PoliceEPort) for the latest information – don’t let your let your Black Friday turn into a Blue Christmas.”
