A 1980'S TV legend is making a return to Northwich to star in an Easter pantomime.

Keith Chegwin is headlining the cast list for 'Beauty and the Beast', along with fellow '80s star Basil Brush and Anne Hegerty, from ITV game show 'The Chase'.

The panto will come to Northwich Memorial Court on April 7 and April 8.

Phil Harding, entertainments manager at Brio Leisure, said he was looking forward to seeing 'Cheggers' back on the Northwich stage.

He said: "Keith actually appeared at the old memorial hall in the '80s when he was very well known for his 'Cheggers Plays Pop' series, so it will be great to catch up.

"In fact, some of the audience who may have been youngsters then may well be bringing their own children this time around."

The show is billed as an 'all-singing, all-dancing, laugh-a-minute ride' full of slapstick fun.

It centres on a girl called Beauty, who lives a provincial life with her father until a terrifying Beast takes her captive.

It is left to Village Idiot ‘Cheggers’, his mother and the mysterious Fairy Tale to save the day.

'Beauty and the Beast' is being brought to Northwich by Anton Benson Productions, the same company that presented Snow White in December.

Phil said: "We’ve carried out research into the type of show families want us to stage at the Memorial Court and pantos scored very highly.

"We’ve actually got a similar type of show 'Hubbards Cubbards', starring Northwich panto favourites Steve Moorewood and Ryan Greaves, playing on Thursday, February 18, at 11am and 2pm, so there’s lots of panto fans in mid Cheshire."

Shows are at 6pm on April 7 and 2pm and 6pm on April 8.

They are aimed at young audiences and families looking for activities during the school holidays.
