WEAVER Vale’s MP is preparing to run his fifth consecutive London Marathon on Sunday.

Graham Evans will clock up a total of 131 London Marathon miles when he takes on the event again this year.

He will run the 26-miles in aid of the charity Care After Combat, which helps provide professional assistance for veterans and their families.

Running this year’s event will also bring Graham level with former MPs, Matthew Paris who ran five consecutive years between 1981 and 1985 and Dennis Canavan who ran between 1984 -88.

No MP, sitting or retired, has bettered the time Matthew Paris ran in 1985.

Graham said: “I’m really pleased to be taking part in the Marathon again, it’s a terrific event which raises millions for good causes and I’m very proud to be putting on my running shoes and doing the 26 miles of the London Marathon for Care after Combat.

“This is an amazing charity which helps support veterans, and their families.

“Yes, the training can be difficult for such a long race – but nothing compared to what the brave men and women of our armed forces go through to protect us – it’s an honour to help those who have given so much to our country.

“I’m staggered that this is my fifth consecutive London marathon.

“The MP, Dick Douglas ran 10 consecutive marathons as an MP, with MPs Chris Pond and Gary Waller running eight and seven respectively.

“After 2016’s marathon I’ll be next on the list with Matthew Paris and Dennis Canavan – that’s a lot of miles, but I’ve got a way to go before then!” To sponsor Graham visit justgiving.com/Graham-Evans16
