THE Charles Darwin Primary School community came together to celebrate Queen Elizabeth’s 90th birthday on Thursday.
The day marked the high point of a whole school topic on the monarchy which involved each class studying a different king or queen and building their entire curriculum around that person for two weeks.
Children and staff attended school dressed as kings, queens, princes and princesses, enjoyed a street party picnic followed by a rousing rendition of the National Anthem and a whole school dance incorporating music and moves from each decade of her majesty’s reign.
The school then held a coronation with reception children taking the lead roles followed by a chorus of Happy Birthday.
Headteacher Adam Croft said: “The day was a fantastic example of the closeness and warmth of the Charles Darwin community, with pupils, parents and grandparents thoroughly enjoying themselves celebrating this momentous occasion.”
