FORMER Co-operative Food premises in Northwich are being offered to let after closing on Saturday.

The supermarket was based in Chester Way, and the premises are being marketed by property consultants Mason Owen.

The company’s website says the premises have a sales area of almost 11,000 square feet, and have the benefit of 127 car parking spaces.

“The area has been enhanced by the opening of a new 27,000 square feet Waitrose in November 2013,” said the website.

“The premises are held by way of an existing full repairing and insuring lease for a term of 25 years from June 2006, at a current passing rental of £243,979 per annum exclusive.”

Based on the rateable value for the premises the rates payable for 2016/17 are £80,514.

Speaking about the store closure, a Co-op spokesman said: “The decision to close any store is taken with great reluctance, and it is in no way a reflection on the hard work and commitment of colleagues.

“The store closure forms part of our ongoing store review process which looks at the viability of stores in line with our food strategy.

“The Co-op is investing to transform and grow its convenience business, and industry data shows that our food strategy is taking us in the right direction.

“While this often means opening new stores - such as the new Co-op in Lostock Gralam - sometimes it does mean closing stores too, and we thank our customers for their valued custom and support over the years at this store.”
