THOUSANDS of people are expected to flood to Verdin Park when the Northwich Carnival returns this month.

The annual event will return to the town on Saturday, July 2, in Verdin Park. The parade will start at 1pm from Old Warrington Road.

Cllr Kevin Rimmer, mayor of Northwich, will formally open the carnival at 2pm. The Pageant of Queens will take place shortly after.

The Crowning of the Carnival Queen, Neve Lightfoot, will take place at 3pm by Brenda Harrop, a former Northwich Carnival committee member.

There will be lots of things to do for all the family throughout the day, including the Manders Fair.

A Northwich Carnival spokesman said: “There will be an afternoon of family entertainment including a display from Vale Royal Birds of Prey, Bollywood dancers, local dance groups, Chris Topper Puppet shows, 1874 Football Club and New Era Boxing Club.

“Also, there will be static displays, stalls and a tombola stall.

“New for this year is the Carnival in the Park’, a live concert on-stage featuring local bands and artists from around 5pm till 9pm.

“Come and relax and listen to local talent.”

A car boot sale will take place on Sunday, July 3. Members of the public can turn up on the day. Cars cost £7 and vans cost £10. Public entry is from 8am.

A Novelty Dog Show will also take place from 11am. Judging will begin at 12pm. Entry fee £1 per class entered.

The Northwich Carnival will be drawn to a close with the Grand Draw at 2pm.

Admission to Verdin Park will be £2 for adults and £1 for children.

Refreshments, toilets and disabled facilities available on site all weekend.
