COLLEAGUES from Tesco in Northwich came together to make much-needed improvements to a community café.

A group of employees from the superstore in Manchester Road rolled up their sleeves and headed to the Station House Café on Monday, August 22 to refurbish an outbuilding belonging to them.

The renovated outbuilding now forms the café’s newly functioning toilet block, which was previously in need of serious repair.

After preparation over the weekend by Tesco Northwich’s in-store technicians, the team took to painting and furnishing the space.

The team of volunteers consisted of 10 in-store colleagues who have donated around two days of their time to the cause.

They also provided essential equipment to help with the refurbishment such as brushes and ladders.

The work was part of Tesco’s community support initiative.

Victoria Collins, store manager at the Northwich Superstore, said: “We’re thrilled to be able to support the Station House Café, and the volunteers who spend so much time running and caring for it, as part of our community support initiative.

“Projects such as these really remind us of the great work going on around us and how important it is to give back to our local community.”

Station House Café, based in Whitegate, is staffed largely by volunteers and a small number of paid staff, as a not for profit community organisation.

The cafe is open seven days a week from 10am to 3pm on weekdays and 10am to 4pm weekends and Bank Holidays.

Julie Ellis, Station House Café director, said: “We’d love to say a big well done and thank you to everyone involved.

“The team have done a wonderful job and it looks 100 times better than it did before.”

The Northwich Tesco community team is always looking for other projects and community groups to support.

If you’re interested in getting involved or have a project that is in need of support then head to Tesco in Northwich and speak to a colleague in store.
