BAKING fans are being invited to create some mouth-watering treats for a fundraising picnic inspired by a little boy’s cancer battle.

Jack Acton, four, from Urmston, was recently diagnosed with DIPG, a brain cancer which is found in children.

Jack is the nephew of Mark and Stephanie Acton, the directors of the Northwich junior parkrun at Marbury Park.

A fun run takes place at 9am this Sunday, September 4, with Peppa Pig, followed by a picnic in the park featuring a charity bake sale for children who took part in the run.

“There will be lots of yummy scrummy treats on offer to raise a donation for a wonderful charity the Starlight Children's Foundation,” said Stephanie.

“Starlight grants wishes to seriously and terminally-ill children, and entertains over half a million children every year in hospitals and hospices throughout the UK.

“The foundation has been chosen in tribute to Jack, whose big brother Ben loves running in junior parkrun, and is looking forward to dressing up on the day.

“The family want to focus their energy on positive actions and feel that Starlight is a wonderful charity to support.

“Children are invited from Northwich and beyond to join their first junior parkrun special event, and are welcome to dress up in whatever costumes they would like to complete the free two-kilometre run. It should be a really fun morning.”

Stephanie and run volunteers and parents are making cakes for the picnic, and anyone who would like to join in is asked to email Stephanie on steph@northwichrunningclub.com.

Stephanie was part of a 19-strong team of family and friends of Jack who took part in The Yorkshire 3 Peaks challenge on Sunday, which has raised £5,822 towards research into DIPG, Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma, the second most common type of primary, high grade brain tumour in children.

Primary brain tumours are those which originate in the brain rather than having spread there from another part of the body.
