THREE former schoolfriends from Northwich whose partners have been affected by brain tumours will be among the fundraisers at a unique charity event.

Young mums Hailey Davies, Becky Astbury and Emma Briscall will join hundreds of people in The Twilight Walk through Chester in aid of The Brain Tumour Charity next Sunday, October 9.

Hailey and her family and friends took part in last year’s Twilight Walk in support of her partner Nathan and Becky’s husband Craig. Craig was diagnosed five years ago, and died the night before last year’s event.

Hailey’s partner Nathan was diagnosed with a brain tumour in 2014, and recent scans have shown his tumour has reduced in size.

Emma’s partner Carl was diagnosed earlier this year with a brain tumour, and is due to undergo surgery.

Hailey said: “We went to school together and over the years have drifted apart, but everything that has happened in the last couple of years has brought us together again.

“It’s nice to know something positive has come out of all of this.”

The women will walk the 10k route with more than 40 family members and friends. The walk begins at dusk and takes in sights including Chester’s city walls.

The Brain Tumour Charity event aims to unite patients and families in the battle against brain tumours as well as raising money.

Hailey said: “The event last year was very emotional but was such a positive experience.

“It was fantastic to be with like-minded people who know what you are going through. We are really looking forward to this year’s event, raising money for the charity keeps us positive."

Geraldine Pipping, the charity’s director of fundraising, said: “The Twilight Walk helps to show people affected by brain tumours they are not alone.

“We receive no government funding, so it’s only through the efforts of people like Hailey, Becky and Emma that we can bring hope to the thousands of people diagnosed with a brain tumour each year.”
