LACK of action to address the decline in shoppers in Weaver Square has been blamed for the closure of a business.

Self-service restaurant The Cosy Kitchen closed last Saturday, September 24, and notices on the window and door explain the reasons behind the decision to shut the business.

“It is with great regret I have had to make the decision to close the business for good,” said the notice at the Market Way business.

“Due to lack of footfall in Weaver Square over the last few years and nothing being done to rectify it the decision had to be made.

“I would like to thank all the loyal customers that have used us over the past years keeping us going.”

Cosy Kitchen regular Peter Southern said on Facebook – “Am so sad Cosy Kitchen has had to close.

“It was my favourite cafe in Northwich. I was there every Tuesday and Friday with friends Robert and Steve. We’ll miss you lots.”

The boyfriend of a woman who worked there said seven people, including the owner, worked at the restaurant.

“On Saturday night the staff were told that it had been the last day of the business as it was being shut and and not to bother coming in on Monday,” he said.

“It was always packed, but once the roadworks started people stopped coming in.”

One of the people who reviewed the business on Trip Advisor in June 2015 said – “Great cafe this - shame it's in the most neglected part of the town. Ali and the girls here always welcoming - nice food - what more can you ask for?”
