A RESHUFFLED Winnington Park side lost 50-17 at home to fellow promoted side Anselmians.

Park, missing players through injuries and unavailability, worked hard for the whole 80 minutes against a strong Anselmians team and showed some glimpses of what they are capable of.

They started strongly and were awarded a penalty on eight minutes for Anselmians handling in the ruck.

The resulting lineout in the Anselmians 22 was won by Park and thanks to great hands in the backline Alex Burrage scored a try in the corner which was unconverted.

Anselmians struck back to level up the scores with an unconverted try off a driving maul following a penalty in the Park 22 on 15 minutes.

The visitors started to dominate the game and with having the lion's share of the possession and territory scored a further three tries to extend their lead to 24-5.

Park continued to work hard and were rewarded with a penalty which was kicked to touch and when the lineout was won Benny Elliot chipped over and picked up his own kick to score a converted try between the posts.

The half finished with a further score from Anselmians leaving the sides to turn around at 31-12.

Park worked hard in defence to hold up Anselmians over the line on two occasions at the start of the second half.

But they were reduced to 14 players when Andrew Evans was yellow carded on 48 minutes which put Park under further pressure.

Anselmians capitalised on this, and some Park missed tackles, by scoring a couple of tries on 53 and 60 minutes to extend their lead to 43-12.

Park worked hard to get some territory and on 66 minutes an Elliot cross-field kick was taken by Charlie Hyde to score a well worked try in the corner.

Anselmians achieved the last points of the game with a converted try on 72 minutes.
