MISSED opportunities cost Winnington Park in a 40-19 loss at Vale of Lune.

The hosts, who sit just below mid-table in the league and have one of the biggest pitches in the north west with a full 20 metre in-goal, showed their hand early and used their kicking game to try and pin a reshuffled Park into their own 22.

Early pressure counted as VoL scored their first unconverted try on four minutes from a ruck on the 22, creating a two-on-one.

Park started to gain momentum and field position, but errors stunted their attack and VoL were still using their kicking game to gain territory.

Park lost a scrum, which turned towards the touchline and VoL scored an unconverted try from the open side.

A few minutes later from a Benny Elliot kick the VoL winger tried to keep the ball in play but knocked it over the try line where Jack Williams seized the opportunity to score a converted try for 10-7, which soon became 13-7 from a penalty success.

Handling errors again stunted Park's attacking opportunities, but a break by wing Will Morrillo gave them some territory leading to Dave Cross driving over the line but his touch down was judged a double movement.

VoL extended their lead with a converted try from a break through the middle and then a penalty to turn round 23-7 to the good.

Shaun Underdown bust over the VoL line to score an unconverted try within two minutes of the re-start.

The game was now in the balance and Park had opportunities but small errors were costing them possession and field position at times.

Alex Burrage, in the centre, was judged to be held up over the line after a fine run.

Parked appeared to be in the ascendancy but indiscipline at the breakdown gave away field position and made the job a lot harder.

On 64 minutes a VoL converted try made it 30-12 but some indiscipline saw the referee show the yellow card to a home player and Park had a chance to take advantage of the extra man.

With Park camped in the VoL 22 some strong forward runs provided a platform and Tom King powered over for 30-19.

Unfortunately, Park could not find the elusive fourth try to get a bonus point and VoL scored two more unconverted tries on 75 and 78 minutes to take the game away.
