POLICE have launched an investigation after a 'disagreement' between candidates canvassing for the local elections.
Tensions have run high in Winsford during the run up to yesterday's election when residents went to the polls to vote for their borough and town council candidates.
And, on Sunday (April 30), officers were informed of an incident involving opposing candidates, which is reported to have happened in Swanlow Lane, at around 9.30am.
A video, claiming to be of the alleged incident, has been shared on social media and has been passed on to the police.
A Cheshire Police spokeswoman confirmed no arrests have yet been made in relation to the incident.
She said: "On Sunday, April 30, police were made aware of a disagreement between a number of campaigners who were canvassing for the local elections.
“The incident is reported to have occurred in the Swanlow Lane area of Winsford at around 9.30am on Sunday, April 30.
“Enquiries in relation to the incident are ongoing, and no arrests have been made at this time.”
Results from the Cheshire West and Chester Council and Winsford Town Council counts are expected later today.
