THE hockey team at a small village primary school has been crowned the county's best after triumphing on finals day.

Eaton Primary School near Winsford qualified for the Cheshire County Hockey Championship finals day at Alderley Edge Hockey Club after battling through the Chester and District competition.

And on the day itself, March 12, impressive victories over Culcheth, Frodsham and Alderley Edge set up mouth-watering showdown with Thelwall.

The final was a tight affair, but Eaton Primary's six-strong squad emerged victorious, battling to a 1-0 triumph in a match which left spectators on the edge of their seat.

Andrew Davies, the executive head of Eaton Primary School, was elated at the outstanding achievement.

He said: "Each year, our school sets ambitious goals for all children to represent us in sports, and this victory is a testament to the determination and skill of our young athletes.

"While winning is always great, we take immense pride in the number of children who get to represent us in various sports throughout the year."

Mr Davies added: "For a small village primary school to clinch the county hockey championship is indeed a remarkable achievement.

"The children, filled with joy and pride, reveled in the realisation of their efforts paying off.

"The victory not only highlights the talent within Eaton Primary but also underscores the school's commitment to providing to their sporting program for its students."

On their return to school, the hockey team members, who Mr Davies commended for their sportsmanship and 'will to win', were celebrated in a special assembly.

Mr Davies added: "This triumph in the County Hockey Championship will undoubtedly be remembered as a proud moment for the school and the young athletes who demonstrated that size is no barrier to success when determination and teamwork are at the forefront."
