NORTHWICH Victoria Supporters Trust, whose members have formed their own club, needs to change its rules to reflect the fact it no longer backs Vics.

If it does not, then 1874 Northwich risks an application to play in the North West Counties League being rejected.

Fans will be asked to support a motion at a Special General Meeting (SGM) later this month to have their membership transferred to a new body called Northwich Football Club.

“It is important that every single member casts their vote in favour of this proposal,” said a spokesman for the trust’s board.

“The board wishes to stress that the SGM will not change anything that members have directed us to do.

“We remain intent on forming a fans-owned football club.”

Two thirds of current trust members, not votes, must support the motion for it to pass.

If it does then Northwich Victoria Supporters Trust will amalgamate with Northwich FC, which plans to trade as 1874 Northwich FC after members picked that as their preferred team name.

The Financial Services Authority (FSA) has insisted on the change to reflect that trust members voted almost unanimously in November to form a new club in time for next season.

It means the trust’s original objective when it was established in 2004 – to forge stronger links between Northwich Victoria and the community around it – is now out of date.

“To make sure we can kick off with our new club, this vote is vitally important,” added the trust spokesman.

“It is a technicality, but one we must adhere to.”

The SGM is scheduled for Tuesday, February 19, at Lostock Social Club, starting at 7.30pm.
