JIM Gannon criticised the referee after Northwich Victoria lost for the first time this season in the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League at Farsley on Saturday.

Match official Nick Gibbons sent off midfielder Bohan Dixon as punishment for two fouls, then awarded the hosts a penalty from which they scored the game’s only goal.

“The referee spoiled the game and his decisions contributed to our defeat,” said the Vics manager.

“The red card was a massive turning point it’s a real shame when poor choices by officials are the deciding factors in a match.”

Aaron Hardy converted from the spot after Mo Ali had barged Farsley captain Robbie O’Brien to the floor.

Godwin Abadaki forced the hosts’ goalkeeper Tom Taylor to save twice in the first half, before the custodian later clawed to safety Gary Burnett’s header from substitute Josh Amis' cross with time running out.

"I felt the overall performance was as good as our previous away games," added Gannon.

"I don't think in any of our away games we have been firing on all cylinders, but we are organised, work hard and always have an attacking threat."
