WEAVERHAM made certain they will be promoted as Division Two champions following a nine-wicket humbling of Heaton Mersey on Saturday.

The Russets celebrated with champagne on the outfield after a 14th victory of the season, reaching a paltry victory target of 61 inside 11 overs thanks to Rob MacMillan (36no).

Earlier, in-form Kevin Douglas was their destroyer with figures of 6-21 as the visitors collapsed to 60 all out.

Mike Clarke provided support with 3-21.

Northwich lost by three wickets at home to Alvanley in the same section, though they at least posted an improved tally of 182-9 thanks to contributions from opener Lee Evans (55) and Ashley Sefton (30no).

Simon Gee (64) led the visitors’ successful reply to 185-7, but they had to fight hard against Sam Shepherd (4-75) who upped his wicket haul for the season to 58.

Captain Nick Gill inspired Middlewich to only a fourth win of the campaign in Division One, his unbeaten 44 taking them to their victory target at Christleton with two wickets to spare.

Needing 126 to win, he shared in a sixth-wicket partnership worth 57 runs with Jordie Gibbens (44) that tipped the contest their way.

The hosts had been dismissed cheaply, with Gibbens (6-46) supported by two-wicket hauls for Stephen Bliss and Stuart Price.

Middlewich have enough points to stay in the section next year.

Oulton Park improved their record to six wins from their past seven matches following a six-wicket victory at Sale.

Guy Emmett took 5-38 to help knock over the hosts for 143, leaving openers Rick Moore (58) and Danny Leech (40) to lead a successful chase.

Davenham could not prevent Macclesfield from securing promotion, losing by eight wickets after being bowled out for 93.

Ian Tait’s pace earned him 5-23 before the home team coasted to a comfortable victory at 94-2.
