Match pointers

1874 NORTHWICH play their first league fixture in more than a fortnight against opponents who have lost eight of nine Premier Division matches to date.

Ian Street’s men find themselves in the peculiar position of having a points tally that leaves them closer to the bottom of the table than the top, despite occupying eighth place.

The hosts welcome back strike pair Matthew Beadle and Mike Brandon after they missed last Sunday’s FA Vase success at Oldham Boro, while defensive duo Mike Aston and Danny Thomas are available again too.

The hosts could include midfield organiser Neil Chappell from the start following his switch from promotion hopefuls Glossop North End this week.

Paul Connor and Ryan Mitchell are suspended though.

Abbey Hey, beaten at Barton Stadium by Northwich in the League Challenge Cup last season, have lost every away game this season.

They haven’t scored a goal on their travels since the opening day either.

Theirs is also the worst defensive record in the North West Counties League top flight after conceding on 29 occasions.

A solitary success was recorded at home to AFC Liverpool, conquerors of 1874 last month.
