NEIL Harvey has returned to former club Marine following Witton’s announcement on Monday that he wanted to leave.
The striker started last night’s 2-1 league win against Rushall Olympic.
The Mariners, who climbed above Albion in the Premier Division table as a reward for their victory, put in a seven-day notice of approach last week.
Harvey, who scored his sixth goal of the campaign for Witton in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at home to Matlock Town, told manager Tony Sullivan afterwards it would be his last.
“His reasons are nothing to do with football,” said Sullivan.
“If he doesn’t want to be here, then that’s his choice. I’ve got to know I can count on players willing to fight for the cause, who can help us get out of the rut we’re in.
“It’s easy at the end of a week to make sure money has gone into the bank, less so to show the determination needed to win football matches.”
Harvey, 31, was Brian Pritchard’s sixth signing of the summer after leaving the Crosby club.
He went there following a successful spell at Hednesford, who he helped to promotion to the Football Conference via the play-offs the season before last.
The front man is not the only player leaving Wincham Park this week after full back Michael Lea announced his departure on his Twitter feed:
All the best to the @wittonalbionfc lads #movingon

Sullivan said: “Mike wasn’t included at the weekend, but I told him the door is not closed.
“It appears he’s made a decision to move on anyway. These are things that happen.
“I’ll be working hard now this week to bring in one or two new faces.”
He told the Guardian teenage goalkeeper Ryan Swift is likely to be missing for six weeks after breaking a bone in his hand in a 2-0 defeat at King’s Lynn.
Daniel East, formerly of Colwyn Bay, will act as cover in his absence.
