ROSS Speight’s final match in charge will be Saturday’s JA Walton Challenge Cup final following a semi-final success at Grappenhall.

Callum Priestley scored the only goal of a close contest, converting Kyle Wilding’s corner midway through the second period.

It means the Grey Lambs, victors in the Mid-Cheshire District FA Challenge Cup final last month, could finish the campaign with a knockout double.

Wythenshawe provide the opposition at Barnton’s Townfield this weekend, kick off 1pm.

“We get to sign off as a group with a cup final,” said Speight.

“Neither side gave the other an inch on Saturday, so credit to the lads for getting through.”

Lostock are guaranteed to finish bottom of League One following a 3-2 defeat at Maine Road reserves last Monday.

An eight-match sequence without losing ended despite goals from Ryan Millington and James Dean restoring parity after the hosts had established an early two-goal lead.

However Michael Burke’s close-range winner with five minutes left condemned the Grey Lambs to relegation.

Speight said: “We gave it everything, but ran out of steam.

“I feel sorry for those lads who have worked their socks off against the odds, only to fall short.”
