BARNTON recorded a third successive victory in Division A, beating back-markers Poynton by four wickets.

Set a target of 146 to win, they made it with 10 balls to spare after captain Matthew Morley (17no) hit the decisive runs.

Lee Cobley (30), at the top of the order, made the biggest individual contribution.

They had lost the toss earlier in the afternoon, but new-ball duo Aiden Malley (1-25) and Ken McDonald (3-30) made early inroads before Morely (1-25) reduced the hosts to 56-5.

Andrew Dawson (59) led a rally until he was stumped by Graham Coull, a trick the wicket-keeper repeated before Poynton closed on 145-8.

James Williams (133no) compiled a brilliant century for Oakmere against Kingsley in Division B, but it did not secure a victory for the visitors.

They declared at 250-9, Tom Cristofani (45) offering most support to Williams before Chris Martin (4-57) prompted wickets to fall.

Kingsley’s reply recovered from 53-3, a 119-run partnership for the fourth wicket between Steve Forster (76) and Martin (49) helping secure batting bonus points at 186-6.

“Oakmere batted well and put us under pressure,” said captain Julian Holmes.

“But we salvaged something with an excellent fight-back.”

Winnington Park were comfortable victors, by six wickets, at home to Cheadle Hulme Ladybridge in the same section.

Skipper Stuart Moniz’s decision to ask Ashley Houghton to open the bowling paid dividend, the left-arm spinner’s haul of 5-34 including the visitors’ top four batsmen.

James Hanson (2-23) and Dan Barnes (2-5) helped finish the job as Cheadle succumbed for 98.

Park needed little more than 19 overs to reach their target, Kendol Richardson (46 off 33 balls) finding the boundary eight times in a quick-fire innings that set them on a course for maximum points.

Winsford suffered a nine-wicket reverse at Sandbach in Division C.

They totalled 144-9, with veteran Mark Skellon (55) and Andy Cooper (36) the leading scorers.

But Sandbach needed only 26 overs to reach their target.
