LEE Suthard improved on a personal best during Selby Cycling Club’s 10-mile time trial, during which he also set a Weaver Valley Cycling Club record.
He completed a fast course near Hull in 18.57, at an average speed of 31.66mph, to finish in fifth position overall.
Riding earlier on, he stayed at the top of the standings before in-form Mark Jones (drag2zero.com) took first prize in 18.34 – the seventh-fastest time over the distance in the UK this year.
Steve Irwin (North Lancs RC) was six seconds adrift in second spot.
Alistair Stanway was quickest of Weaver Valley’s contingent in Cheshire Roads Club’s 50-mile trial last Saturday, timing 2:02.16 to classify inside the top 20 overall.
Dave Fearon clocked 2:09.55, while Alan Shuttleworth – who usually competes on a tricycle – finished in 2:30.11 on a geared bike.
Caroline Fearon was prevented by an injury from completing the course.
South Pennine Road Club’s Charles Taylor, national champion over 100 miles, took first place in 1:44.41 – his second-fastest time for the distance this term.
In Audlem Cycling Club’s road race series’ third round, Jim Duffy finished in the pack following a bunch sprint to the finish in the men’s under 55s age category.
Weaver Valley clubmate Gerard Lacey was forced to retire from the veterans’ race after sustaining an eye injury caused by grit.
