FROM an unlikely position, Winnington Park’s batsmen secured for their side a four-wicket win at home to Stockport Trinity on Saturday.

Set a target of 174 to win, they struggled to 47-4 despite captain Alec Butcher contributing 30 at the top of the order.

Overseas signing Jordan Daly (71 off 89 balls) and James Hendry (47no) then shared in a fifth-wicket partnership worth 99 runs that changed the course of the contest.

Park reached their target with two balls to spare after scoring 47 runs in the final seven overs.

Butcher said: “The highlight of the day was a superb batting performance from Jordan and James.

“They adapted their game brilliantly to a difficult situation, taking responsibility – that partnership was a phenomenal effort.”

Two Trinity batsmen, Chris Grindley (63) and James Shaw (57) scored half-centuries, although the latter was dropped first ball.

Daly (2-39), Sam Barnes (2-40) and Phil Amatiello (2-49) claimed two wickets each.

Oakmere were left to rue losing the toss after suffering a seven-wicket defeat at against Port Sunlight at Overdale Lane.

They contested the dismissals of three of their top-six batsmen, succumbing for 79 in bowler-friendly conditions.

Only Craig Phelan, Alex Hodges and Harrison Jones made it to double figures, while Taylor Cox (5-19) and Wayne Greve (3-10) did the damage.

The visitors, promoted to Division Two at the end of last season, needed only 23 overs to reach their target.

Openers Ben McPherson (46) and Danny Jones put on 55 for the first wicket before Cox (24no) and Greve completed the job at the crease.

Youngster Dan Gibbon took 2-14.

Kingsley’s game at Chelford in the same section was cancelled.

Barnton had the better of a rain-affected draw at Romiley, where they posted 153-5 off 27 overs after losing the toss.

Adam Garrod (45) carried on from where he left off last week, supported by Paul Coot (28) and Cory Devanny (29no).

The hosts wobbled at 8-3 in reply when Neil Langham (2-13) and Devanny (3-21) took early wickets, only to avoid defeat by reaching 77-8 by the game’s close.
